150 Scarves
Have you noticed scarves being brought to our store? Our friend Callie volunteers for the Assistance League of the Triangle Area. They help clothe over 800 school children! Callie collects scarves that our customers knit/crochet. If you would like to be a part...it's simple. Using worsted weight yarn knit or crochet a scarf that measures 5 inches wide and 40 inches long (including fringe). No eyelash or fancy yarns should be used. Questions? Email our friend at textiledust@aol.com. 150, that's how many more scarves are needed.

A Quilt Full of Hugs
Isnt' it wonderful how sewers and quilters can share priceless gifts with special folks! These are one of a kind creations for one of a kind folks!
Take a look at this beautiful quilt sewn by our customer Kathy Riggs Matthews. She said this is for her nephew in Afghanistan. He works in a hospital there. Kathy wanted her nephew to be warm and cozy during the bitter, cold winters in this country. He is very far away from all his family who loves him very much.
Kathy took the time to make a really nice label.
Great job, Kathy. And thank you for letting us enjoy your project!

Now Is The Time
That's right! It is time for Carolyn to learn how to blog! And it is time to begin your sewing for the holidays! When you start early, you can enjoy the process and creativity flows with abundance!
Here is a simple idea to get you going! If you have friends that live out of state, why not pick up North Carolina products and a favorite kitchen gadget. Here I am packaging up Moravian cookies, grits and a flat spatula that really hugs the side of a mixing bowl!
Come to the store and find your favorite new bolt of fall and Christmas fabrics. New bolts are on the floor every week, often daily! Sew your fabric into aprons or potholders.
If you would like to learn to sew your scraps into fun potholders, join me for a quick class on September 15 or November 18! Check out our newsletter for other Fast, Fun and Functional class ideas that you can sew for gifts!

Love That #10 Foot!
I've been doing some sewing other than quilts lately and have been using other feet than I normally use. While adding bias binding to the hem of a skirt, I sewed the binding on with my regular #1 foot. But when it came time to stitch the binding down I replaced the #1 foot with the #10 edge-stitching foot. What a great tool to stitch along the edge of the binding with a perfectly straight stitch. Just move your needle position over a step or two depending on how far from the edge you want to stitch. Ta-Dah! A perfectly stitched edge, so easy and no wobbly stitches. In addition, if you ever need to topstitch along the edge of straps for a handbag or long strips of fabric this makes it "oh so easy".
This foot is also great to "stitch in the ditch" when you don't want to hand-stitch facings down inside your garment. I LOVE working with this foot! What is your favorite way to use the #10 foot?

Making Faces at Bernina Club!
What a wonderful time we had this weekend with Carol Straus and her program on creating faces for fabric dolls. Whether you use a photo of an existing doll's face or one that you take of a child, you too can create amazing one-of-a-kind faces for fabric dolls! Carol has such a wealth of knowledge in all things related to sewing and fiber arts. Her generosity provided three lucky winners with original works of art in the dolls she presented for the nametag drawing.
Congratulations to Nancy Sasnett, Karin Mede and Trish Sadler.
OUCH!
Many of you know our customer Pat Thomas and her wonderful talent to sew just about anything! However, here is something that you may want to avoid sewing.... It seems Pat got a little carried away a couple of weeks ago and sewed through her index finger. Yikes! Even I know how painful that is as I, too, have had a run in with a needle through my thumb.
Never fear, Pat is recovering nicely and continues to create wonderful garments!
